After 30+ years as a professional guitarist , I’m ready to share what I’ve learned. The knowledge and experience I’ve gained will help you get past blocks and bottlenecks in your playing. Working with you one on one, you will not only learn, you will learn how to learn.

“I’ve  studied with Tristan and he’s not only an insanely skilled musician, he’s a super supportive mentor. studying with him will open up your playing and your perspective. highly recommend. 🎸🔥” - Frankie Whyte

“I have been an aspiring ‘self taught guitarist’ for almost two years, making minimal progress and constantly hitting a rut. In the weeks that Tristan has been working with me I have seen many changes in a short time. Tristan takes the time to tailor the lessons to fit your experience level and goals as well as expanding your comfort zone. He is a great mentor who makes your time together fun while at the same time holding you accountable. The best part is Tristan builds your confidence that you can and will learn to be a better guitarist!” - Frank Draskovic

Hi, I’m Tristan Avakian.

I’ve travelled the world - North and South America, Europe, Asia, the Mideast - as a professional guitarist. I’ve worked in high end studios in LA, Nashville, New York and Toronto, working on anything from demos to motion picture soundtracks to platinum albums. I’ve recorded with artists as diverse as Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey and Biohazard. As a guitar teacher I have coached Adrien Brody, Rohan Marley, Chynna Phillips, Lauryn Hill and others. I’ve performed with Queen on American Idol for a worldwide television audience of one billion people. I’ve literally run away with the circus, as a member of Cirque du Soleil. And I’ve been in no less than 15 hit musicals.

All of this is to say that the guitar is a vehicle, and it can take you to places you’ve never imagined. Or help you express feelings there are no words for, deepen your enjoyment of music, widen your circle of friends, and even be your friend, when no one else is around.

Maybe you’ve been trying to learn through YouTube videos and find it bewildering - too much contradictory information, too many options, not to mention the hundreds of distractions in the aptly named sidebar.

You’re just looking for answers. I can help you get from where you are, to where you want to be.

Playing what you hear in your head, what you feel in your heart. Communicating more effectively to other musicians. Learning more efficiently, and most importantly, finding your own voice. Telling your own story. Being heard and understood. Connecting with an audience, which is the greatest feeling in the world, whether it’s to a packed arena, or just one person.
